Coriander chutney

Ingredients:

Coriander leaves 1 bunch
Coconut 1/4 cup
Onion chopped finely
Ginger small grated
Green chilli 2
Red chilli     2
Salt
Lemon juice 2tsp

Method:
Blend the chopped onions, coconut, coriander leaves and ginger to a smooth paste. Add some water to it in blender.
Add few drops of lemon juice to it.Serve with dosas, samosa, bajji.

Vegetable Cutlet

Vegetable cutlet or veg patties is one of my favourite appetizer or evening snack .The recipe is very simple with mixture of vegetables and potatos. Its a healthy, nutritious and tasty snack which goes with ketchup or green chutney. It is very easy to prepare.

Ingredients:

  • Potato 2
  • Greeb beans 4
  • Carrot 1
  • Peas few
  • Turmeric powder 1 pinch
  • Chilli powder[ according to your spice level]
  • Green chillli 1
  • Coriander leaves few
  • Garam masala pwdr 1tsp
  • Salt

Method:

  1. Boil the potatos. Mash it well, once it cools.
  2. Cut the vegetables to thin slices and cook them.
  3. Mix the cooked vegetables with the mashed potato. Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, green chilli, garam masala and salt to it.
  4. From the mixture take a small quantity and make a ball shape dipping it in bread crumbs and then flatten it to a small round shape.
  5. And then again, roll the round cutlet with bread crumbs and fry it in a kadai with oil or deep fry until the cutlets turns golden brown.
  6. Serve hot with ketchup.

Remedies for sunburn

Sunburn is very common in summer escpecially in hot weather conditions. Sunburn is caused due to direct exposure to UV rays. Symptoms of sunburn are blistering of skin, cold and nausea. The  affected area looks very tender with red patches. For some skin may also start to peel. Here are some useful home remedies.

  • To the affected area apply a paste of yogurt and turmeric. This can be applied daily.
  • Aloe gel is believed to have anti-inflammatory effects and is used topically to soothe burned skin and to help heal wounds. Take the gel of aloe vera and apply it on the affected area.
  • Coconut and olive oil is also very good for treating sunburn.
  • Apply ice cubes on the affected areas.
  • Cucumber slices can be kept on the affected areas as it sooths the skin.
  • Grated potato can also be applied.
  • Keep the body hydrated by drinking lots of juice and water and eat lots of fruits.

Rice kheer

Ingredients:

Long grain rice[washed]

Milk 3cups

Condensed milk 1cup

Cardamon powder 1tsp

Method:

  1. Boil the rice in the milk on a medium flame until rice is cooked well.
  2. Stir frequently to avoid burning.
  3. Now add the condensed milk, raisins, sugar. Stir until it becomes thick.
  4. At last add the cardamon and serve hot.

Remedies for nausea

Nausea can be due to several reason. It can be due to over consumption of food, digestion problem, morning sickness, stress and many more. If nausea is severe it induces vomiting. If it lasts for more than two days its better to report to the doctors immediately. Here are some basic remedies for nausea. If it last for more than a day itis better to report to the doctors.

  • Nausea is common in pregnant women as its one of the early signs of pregnancy.If it is severe it leads to vomiting. During pregnancy it can be controlled by avoiding oily foods. Take crackers often and sniff the lemon often.
  • Sniffing the lemon often controls the nausea.
  • Avoid junk foods and consume fruits and vegetables more.
  • Ginger tea is a best way to control nausea.
  • Get plenty of fresh air.
  • Lemon juice mixed in warm water and sipping in regular intervals reduces nausea.
  • Avoid all the dairy products.
  • Peppermint tea is also very good for controlling nausea.

Coconut chutney

Ingredients:

  • Coconut [grated] 1 cup
  • Split gram dal 1 tsp
  • Green Chilli 2 0r 3
  • Curry leaves few
  • Urad dal 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  • Garlic 2 pod
  • Cashews few
  • Tamarind 2 tsp

Method:

  1. Grind the grated coconut, green chilli’s, garlic, cashews, tamarind to a coarse paste.
  2. Add salt according to your taste. Add little water.
  3. In a separate pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds, urad dal,  curry leaves for tempering. When it splutters, pour it to the coconut paste.

Panagal Kandu Khasayam

Panagal kandu is very good for treating very bad cold and cough. This is one of the ingredient used in preparing khasayam. It is also know as palm sugar and is very effective for treating  dry cough with throat pain. I was suffering from bad dry cough in chennai recently and my mother in-law prepared this khasayam and gave me.My throat was very soothing when i drank it. Here is the recipe for this khasayam.

Ingredients:

  • Panagal Kandu few
  • Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  • Black pepper powder 1 tsp
  • Chukku 2 tsp
  • Milk 1 cup

Method:

  1. Make the above ingredients to fine powder using pestle and mortar.
  2. To a cup of hot milk, add the above powder[Strain the powder using tea filter] and stir well.
  3. Drink it when it is warm or medium hot for good result. Drink it twice a day.

Kaara kozlhakattai

Ingredients:

  • Rice [Soaked raw rice] 2cups
  • Onions 1
  • Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  • Urad daal 1 tsp
  • Oil 1tbsp
  • Curry leaf few
  • Green chilli’s 3
  • Salt.

Method:

  1. Grind the soaked raw rice to a very coarse paste and keep it separately.
  2. Meanwhile, take a pan and heat oil then add the mustard seeds, urad daal, curry leaves and green chillis.
  3. When it splutters, add the finely chopped onions and saute until the onions are transparent.
  4. Then, take the grounded rice and make it balls by pressing with your fist. Oval shape is fine for this kolakattai.
  5. Put the kolakatai in the pan and saute for 10 minutes along with the onions.
  6. Then, take the grounded rice along with the onions and seasonings and make it balls by pressing with your fist. Oval shape is fine for this kolakattai.
  7. Now keep the kolakattai in idli plates  and pressure cook for 10 minutes.
  8. Serve hot with chutneys.

Onion chutney

Ingredients:

  • Onion 1
  • Green chilli’s 3
  • Red chilli’s 2
  • Curry leaves few
  • Tamarind paste
  • Mustard seeds 1tsp
  • Urad dal 1tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil 1 tbsp

Method:

  1. In a pan heat oil , and add urad dal and red chilli’s.
  2. Then, add the onions and salt and saute until raw smell goes.
  3. Then grind the tamarind paste along with the onions, green chilli’s to a fine paste.
  4. Finally do the seasoning with few mustard seeds and curry leaves.
  5. Serve with hot dosa, idli or vada.

Remedies for head lice

Head lice is one of the common problem in girls and women. Head lice transfers from one head to another’s head very easily. Its better to keep hair short if its difficult to manage lengthy hairs. Keeping clean and washing head regularly keeps away from lice. Some of the remedies are:

  • Neem leaves juice is one of the best remedey for killing lice in head. Apply neem leaves juice on head and let it dry for half an hour, and then wash with shampoo. This kills the lice in head. This can be done twice in a month.
  • Lemon juice is also very effective in killing head lice. Apply lemon juice on head and wash after 30 minutes. This gets ridd from lice. Repeat twice a week.
  • One of the best remedy for killing lice is to mix camphor extract with coconut or olive oil and apply it on head. Let it remain on head for15 minutes. Then wash hair with shampoo.
  • Do not share others comb, hat or other acessories related with head.
